For some time now, tourism has been the economic backbone of the RIMINI RIVIERA, however, there are also a notable number of companies outside this sector in the region. Although these companies are not large-scale, they are well-known at the national, and often, at the international level.
One of the most important industries is tied to fashion. The headquarters of some of the most prestigious clothing (from Alberta Ferretti to Gilmar, Gerani, Rebecchi, and Iceberg) and footwear designers (Gimmi Baldinini, Sergio Rossi, Vicini, Zanotti, Casadei, Pollini, Valleverde) are located here.
The sporting goods industry is also very important. The two biggest names are: Technogym and Giacomelli Sport. Technogym produces exercise and fitness equipment and was the official supplier for the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney. Giacomelli Sport, a chain with over 100 shops, sells athletic clothing and goods and is present throughout Italy and Europe.
Rimini is also home to two other very important companies: Cantieri Nautici Ferretti Craft, which is the world leader in the design and construction of luxury motor yachts and is listed on the "Mercato Telematico" of the Italian Stock exchange, and SCM, another world leading company in the production of wood-processing machinery.
Rimini Fiera, an exhibition facility, is also very important for the local economy. It is now located in the brand new exhibition district near Rimini's motorway exit and is among the most innovative facilities of this type in Europe. It spreads out over 460,000 sq. m, of which 160,000 sq. m are natural areas and 127,000 sq. m are utilizable for exhibitions.
