Case Study: Raduno Ferrino

Exhibition of outdoor sports equipment
September 2008
Villa Mattioli (Vergiano di Rimini)

Type of event: meeting and indoor/outdoor exhibition of products
Requirements: location provided with exhibition halls and a wide outdoor garden where to put up the tents; rooms for overnight
CBRR role: search of the location; problem solving; assistance to the client
CBRR proposed solution: two different locations: a historic villa on the hills, with a wide outdoor garden; hotel by the sea
Exhibiting area: 500 sq m indoor halls; 2000 sq m outdoor space

The company
Ferrino is a company founded in 1870. It is leader in the outdoor and sports equipment market. It has always been owned by the Ferrino family and, in 1970, the Rabajoli family have become co-owners of the company. Their expertise consists in designing, producing, selling, researching and developing equipment for mountaineering, outdoor life, trekking and expeditions.

Aim and requirements of the event
At the 2008 Meeting, Ferrino aimed at presenting the new collections of outdoor sports equipment, strengthening the relationships with their customers also by creating the opportunity to thoroughly discuss and receive their customers’ advice about technical aspects of the products.
The Ferrino Expo has been held in Rimini for three years with the assistance of CBRR. It requires not only a welcoming location but, above all, a venue provided with halls where to display the products (backpacks, sleeping bags, high-tech sportswear, accessories, etc) and with a large outdoor grassy area where to put up the tents (from camping tents to those used by the civil protection).

CBRR proposed solution
The client asked for hotel rooms, meeting rooms and a wide garden. For the 2008 edition, Convention Bureau offered a new solution that involved two different locations: a venue for the exhibition, on the hills just five kilometres away from Rimini and the hotels on the coast to provide accommodation for the visitors to the expo. The client agreed on this solution. The 2008 Ferrino Meeting took place at Villa Mattioli.

The location
Villa Mattioli, in Vergiano di Rimini, is a three-storey building of the nineteenth century, managed by Leardini Group, a company that owns other locations in the region and that also runs the banqueting and catering service I girasoli. It is a historic building located in a green area and surrounded by a wide garden. It is nearby Rimini, just a few minutes away from the hotels and the sea. The halls adorned with frescos hosted the welcome points, the coffee-breaks, the catering service and the presentation of the products: 500 square metres of indoor exhibition. The tents were put up in the 2000 sq m-lawn that surrounds the villa.

The role of CBRR
During the 2008 Ferrino Meeting CBRR carried out its mission: it examined the opportunities offered by the region with regards to the venue and the suppliers to be proposed to the client; worked as a problem solver and, as requested by the client, was the reference point for the whole organisation.

The client’s comments
"It was the ideal solution for us. Convention Bureau well understood that a big hotel was not consistent with the outdoor lifestyle we are committed to. We welcomed our guests in a villa in the middle of the countryside, with a spotless service and high quality catering; and CBRR took care of everything: from the logistics to the management of the event, finding the right solution to every problem".
